Der Checkpoint Charlie ist der wohl bekannteste Grenzübergang zwischen West- und Ost-Berlin. Sein Name geht zurück auf den dortigen Kontrollpunkt der Westalliierten. Sie errichteten ihn als Reaktion auf den Grenzübergang, den die DDR dort unmittelbar nach der Grenzabriegelung 1961 ausschließlich für den Verkehr von Angehörigen der alliierten Streitkräfte, Diplomatinnen und Diplomaten sowie ausländischen Personen eingerichtet hatte. Der Checkpoint Charlie zählt zu den beliebtesten Sehenswürdigkeiten Berlins.
