Carolin Hingst: Neun deutsche EM-Starter waren schon 2009 bei der WM in Berlin am Start. Aber nur eine war bereits 2002 dabei, als in München zuletzt eine EM in Deutschland stattfand: Stabhochspringerin Carolin Hingst. Mit 37 Jahren will sie sich jetzt noch einmal ihren Traum vom Finale erfüllen.

Jimmy Vicaut: Der Franzose ist der schnellste Mann Europas, lief die 100 Meter schon zweimal in 9,86 Sekunden und egalisierte damit den Europarekord von Francis Obikwelu (Portugal). Da dieser ursprünglich aus Nigeria stammt, ist Vicaut also der schnellste europäische Sprinter aller Zeiten, der auch wirklich in Europa geboren wurde. Einen Einzeltitel im Freien hat er aber bislang noch nicht gewonnen.

Dina Asher-Smith: Vor dem Sprint der Frauen reden alle nur über Titelverteidigerin Dafne Schippers (Niederlande) und die Deutsche Gina Lückenkemper. Europas Jahresbeste ist allerdings die Britin Dina Asher-Smith mit einer Bestleistung von 10,92 Sekunden. 2016 bei der EM in Amsterdam siegte sie bereits über 200 Meter. In Berlin peilt sie nun sogar das Sprint-Double an.
